Maria Testa, author of Something About America
Award-winning novelist and poet Maria Testa will discuss her latest verse novel for readers 12 years and older, Something About America.  The novel about a Portland middle school student who immigrated with her family from Kosova centers on her parent's different perspectives on America and the ugly incident in nearby Lewiston that makes the whole family reassess their relationship with this country.  Testa will review the real incident between the mayor of Lewiston and the Somali-American community in 2002, her friendship with refugees from the Balkan Wars, and the influence of these events on her fiction.

Jeff Kinney, author/illustrator of Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney recalls the growing pains of school life and introduces a new kind of hero who epitomizes the challenges of being a kid.  As Greg says in his diary, "Just don't expect me to be all 'Dear Diary' this and 'Dear Diary' that"  Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won't do and what he actually does are two very different things.

Laura Numeroff, author of The Jellybeans
Laura Numeroff is the author of the best-selling If You Give a... series which has cumulatively sold over 8 million copies.  She's also the author of the What Mommies Do Best/What Daddys Do Best series.  She lives in Los Angeles, California, where she loves to ride horses, read biographies, and play with her pets.

Mitali Perkins (author) and Jamie Hogan (illustrator), Rickshaw Girl
Naima excels at painting the traditional alpana patterns with which Bangladeshi women and girls decorate their homes for holiday celebrations.  But she wishes she could help her father earn money like her best friend helps his family by driving his father's rickshaw.  Meet author Mitali Bose Perkins, who was born in Kolkata (Calcutta), India and now lives in Newton, Massachusetts and illustrator, Jamie Hogan, who teaches illustration at Maine College of Art.

Robin Merrow MacCready, author of Buried
Buried is a suspenseful and mind-twisting psychological thriller that will keep readers turning the pages and help them grasp the drama and destruction of codependency.  Robin Merrow MacCready's first novel won the 2007 Edgar Award for Best YA novel and was selected for the NYPL's Best Books for the Teen Age 2007.  She lives on the Maine coast.
