National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications:

Portland Locations:

Rite Aid Place, 290 Congress Street  (operated by Portland Police Dept.)
Rite Aid in parking lot, 713 Congress Street (operated by Portland Police Dept.)
Maine Medical Center parking lot, 22 Bramhall Street (operated by Portland Police Dept. and MMC)
Cumberland County Sheriff's Office front lobby medication collection box, 36 County Way (operated by Cumberland County Sheriff's Office)
University of New England College of Pharmacy Building, 716 Stevens Avenue (operated by Portland Police Dept.)

  • MARVEL! databases include Health Source and Medline.  Search magazine articles on health related topics. Many are online in full text.  Available to Maine residents. 
  • Medline Plus A rich source of medical information from the National Library of Medicine. Offers Health Topics, Drug Information, Dictionaries, Directories, and access to Medline, an index of medical journals, with some articles in full text.
  • Healthfinder A guide to health information, gathered from a variety of government agencies.
  • Healthfinder espanol su guía a la información confiable de la salud
  • Keep Me Well.  What you can do to improve your health and stay well.
  • NOAH NOAH seeks to provide high quality full-text health information for consumers that is accurate, timely, relevant and unbiased. NOAH currently supports English and Spanish.
  • Mayo Clinic Health Oasis
  • Intelihealth Sponsored by Aetna, this site features Harvard Medical School's Consumer Health Information.
  • Merck Home Edition An interactive edition of a consumer orientated medical textbook. A text edition is also available.

General Reference
Two general guides to health and medical topics are the Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide and the Merck Manual of Medical Information , both written for the medical consumer. The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy is aimed at the health professional.
