The Library Annex
The Library’s annex, our “collections management center,” is a high-efficiency, minimally-staffed, closed-stacks operation at an offsite Portland location with no routine public access. The annex collections appear in the library’s online catalog and borrowers can search or browse for items and then request them to be delivered to any of the four PPL locations for pick-up. Borrowers at other libraries in Maine can search and request these PPL holdings through MaineCat.
PPL staffs the annex two days per week and coordinates delivery to our public locations and to other libraries. Requests from the annex collections usually take 3-4 days to arrive at your pick-up location. We will send you a notice when it is ready for pick-up or you can call the Lending Desk at your selected location.
The new annex location on Riverside Street in Portland is owned jointly with the Maine Historical Society. To learn more about our new annex location, read the Director’s Update on our “Life of the Library” blog.
We want to express our deep and abiding gratitude to J B Brown for providing temporary annex space for the last five years.
