Banned Book Film Series: Brokeback Mountain

Based on a short story by E. Annie Proulx about two cowboys–Ennis del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal)–who fall in love. Directed by Ang Lee, this film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won Best Picture from the Golden Globes, The Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival, and numerous other Critics Awards. In 2018 it was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.

 

About the Series » Banned Book Film Series 2019

Every year the Library celebrates banned Books with a series of films based on banned books. This year’s selections include such American classics as Huckleberry Finn and A Separate Peace, along with Brokeback Mountain and American Psycho. Join us on Thursday evenings at 6:30 in the Rines Auditorium. Screenings are free and refreshments are provided.
