Talk by IVAN HELD —
Peaks Island summer resident and President of Putnam, Dutton and Berkley imprints at Penguin Random House.
Everyone is welcome at this Friends of the Peaks Island Library Annual Meeting Program in the newly renovated Community Room!
Ivan Held started his publishing career working in bookstores in Washington, DC, more than 30 years ago. He moved to New York in the 1980s and took a job at Random House in the publicity department, where he worked with a number of great writers and public figures including E.L. Doctorow, Norman Mailer, Ralph Ellison, General Colin Powell, and Hunter S. Thompson. As a publicist, a marketer and eventually, a publisher, he has helped make more than 500 books into bestsellers.
He is currently president of the Putnam, Dutton and Berkley imprints at Penguin Random House and is responsible for approximately 400 titles per year. He believes the “coolest thing about the job” is watching a book take off—books like Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Kathryn Stockett’s The Help have provided the kind of thrill that keeps a whole team excited for years.
