BooktoberFest: Long Story Short

Friday, October 13 - 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: 619 Congress Street, Portland, ME
Audience: Adults

150 years of education, entertainment
and discovery for all.

PPL: It’s a long story.

Help us celebrate the 150th chapter in our long, dynamic story with an interactive conversation around the short story format. It’s like a “happy birthday” edition of a book club meeting with special literary guests and catered snacks – a book lover’s dream!

UNH Humanities professor Kate Gaudet and Maine author Bill Roorbach will guide our interactive conversation of the ever-popular short story and Roorbach’s recent collection The Girl of the Lake. Reading the book is encouraged, but not required – although we do hope you will join in the discussion!

Baxter Building circa 1894, from the Portland Room Archives.

And for the icing on the cake, our good friends at VIA are hosting this event at their 619 Congress Street location.

Known as the Baxter Building, this address was home to PPL from 1889-1979. Attendees will get an inside look at one of Portland’s most historic buildings.

We look forward to sharing our history and our love of books with you during this special, free BooktoberFest event!
