An Evening with Monica Wood, Jeffrey Lewis and Bunny McBride
Location: Main Library
Maine author Monica Wood shares her recommendation for great reading this summer at an evening event with fellow authors Jeffrey Lewis and Bunny McBride. Monica will interview each author about their books, The Inquisitor’s Diary and By the Light of the Moon, on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 6:30pm in Rines Auditorium at Portland Public Library.
Jeffrey Lewis – The Inquisitor’s Diary
“Written in the exquisite, convincing voice of a 17th-centruy friar doing the bidding of the Inquisition, this gorgeous novel pits a mute prisoner’s moral integrity against the unraveling certainty of his pious captor. At the end of this riveting story, I closed the book and wept. You will love these characters and remember them for a very long time.” ~Monica Wood
Bunny McBride – By the Light of the Moon
“In this slim volume of essays about letting go and finding peace, McBride reeled me in, sentence by beautiful sentence. Though she explores life’s great themes of love and loss, there is nothing new agey or talk-showish about these brief, elegant essays, just a clear-eyed view of a stormy world. I think book groups would enjoy dissecting these essays, which made me feel as if I were in a company of a wise older sister.” ~Monica Wood
Monica is the author of When We Were the Kennedys, Any Bitter Thing, Ernie’s Ark, My Only Story, and Secret Language.
