Portland Public Library and Illustration Institute presents “How to Get Into Children’s Books” a panel discussion with Lizzy Rockwell, Chris Van Dusen, Scott Nash and Matt Tavares

Saturday, February 18 - 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Main Library
Audience: Adults

Join Illustration Institute for a candid conversation about how to create and publish a children’s book. This panel discussion will be held on Saturday, February 18th in the Rines Auditorium and includes Chris Van Dusen (The Circus Ship), Scott Nash (The High Skies Adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate), Lizzy Rockwell (A Bird is a Bird), and Matt Tavares (Growing Up With Pedro) – four seasoned children’s book author/illustrators.  “As author/illustrators from the Illustration Institute, we understand the desire many people have to create a children’s book,” said Chris Van Dusen,  “this event will shed light on the process and provide encouragement as well as discuss ways to navigate the real life challenges the endeavor requires.”

All four artists were part of Illustration Institute’s recent “Picture this…” exhibit at Portland Public Library’s Lewis Gallery. They will present their work then share their knowledge and experience regarding the children’s book industry. A question and answer period will follow the discussion, as well as a half-hour mingle for attendees to meet the panel in person. This event is free with a suggested donation, please bring your questions!
