Zoom info below.

About the Book:

Voice of a Lion is a collection of stories from The Telling Room’s Young Writers and Leaders.  It will take you back to times of simple joys and complex pain, from the yearning for a touch from kuyukuyu (grandmother) to life-threatening depression. The young authors in this anthology come together from many countries around the world, and from different Southern Maine high schools. They represent multiple races, faiths, traditions and cultures. Some come from countries in crisis but still have the power to speak about courage. Some have been through the sting of losing a loved one but still choose to capture the magic in their lives. These young people teach us that in a world filled with labels and dividers there are sacred elements that unite us. Sometimes it’s sharing a meal, other times it’s validating a truth, and during some special instances, unity comes when we find the ones who make us feel loved enough to tell our story.

About the Authors:

Amira Doale

Amira Doale is the author of the story of “Jasmine and Clementine.” She is a freshman at Portland High School. The story takes place in the middle of the spring in Damascus, Syria, and while Amira is at school and the city is under attack. The author has a hard problem ending conversations no matter how bad or good they are. In the future, Amira Doale hopes to get a career in the criminal justice field.

Fatimah Lamloom

Fatimah Lamloom, a sophomore at Casco Bay High School, grew very fond of writing when she first started at The Telling Room. She then wrote the true story, “Soup,” about an experience she had while volunteering at Preble Street that she still applies to her life now. Outside of The Telling Room, Fatimah enjoys singing and going to the beach with her friends and family.

Johan Sifa

Johan Sifa lives in Portland, Maine, and is a senior at Casco Bay High School. She’s the oldest of four and whenever she has time for herself, she sings, writes, and reads. “The Expression of My Soul” is her first published story. A quirky thing about her is that she enjoys watching Naruto.
