Visit the First Folio!

For the month of March an original Shakespeare First Folio, printed in 1623, will be on display in the Lewis Gallery during regular opening hours.  Individual tickets are not required to view the exhibit. A docent or staff member will be available to answer questions.

Groups of 10 or more are required to schedule a group tour. Please contact the programming office at (207) 871-1700 x723 or

Student Groups

There are limited number of opportunities for student group visits to the First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare exhibit. These student tours are limited to groups of up to 50 people (including teachers and chaperones), and will last approximately one hour, from 9am-10am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the month of March.  A docent or staff person will guide the group through the exhibition.

In order to best accommodate the high volume of expected requests for student tours, we will be holding a lottery for these limited number of tours. If you’re interested in our student group lottery, please email Meg Gray by Wednesday, February 24th, at with the following information:

The PPL bookstore, located on the lower level of the main branch, will feature Shakespeare merchandise during the First Folio! exhibit. Starting March 4, 2016, the bookstore will be open Monday thru Saturday from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
